It’s time for WWW Wednesday! As apart of my healthy ARC addiction (well… almost healthy if you consider I’m JUST ABOUT keeping up with it) I’ve been reading Beneath Cruel Fathoms by Anela Deen and Misadventures in the Cage by Sarah Robinson.

The former, Beneath Cruel Fathoms, is a part of my Indie Author challenge and I have to admit – it’s going well so far. Okay, I’m like 15% in to the book but usually any major issues would be glaring at me by now so it’s a promising sign!

Misadventures in the Cage has also been a positive reading experience so far. There are a few minor issues I’ve had with the story but on an overall note it’s an interesting read and has decent pace! Plus… can we just add that it’s a sports romance. They’re practically crack for me so this week’s reading has been GREAT.

I received this ARC from Book Sirens and was BLOWN AWAY by how cute and funny Hexes and O’s turned out to be. It was sweet, a touch awkward and hilariously quirky. I loved (almost) every minute of it and Lisa Wells is an author I’ll be keeping an eye out for in the future, that’s for sure! Full RTC.

I’m so excited to get my grubby little mitts on these two books! I absolutely adored Tessa Bailey’s Fix Her Up and the second instalment in the Hot and Hammered series, Love Her or Lose Her, has me practically jumping up and down in eagerness!

The next book up on my list is A Dog’s Purpose which is my book club pick for the month. I’M A DOG PERSON and I’ve heard that this one is a tear jerker so I’m preparing myself for some good old fashioned SOBBING in the near future.

After reading the premise and excerpt of Hexes and O’s, I was EAGER to get my hands on a copy! This book is ridiculously funny and oh, so sweet! When Book Sirens approved me for the novel, I snatched it up and have been blissfully content reading it ever since. Lisa Wells is a new-to-me author that I’ll be keeping an eye on after this!

As a mixture of Norse and Greek mythology, this action-packed paranormal romance novel was practically written to be on my TBR. Seriously, there aren’t many books that tick so many of my go-to tropes and themes. While the haters-to-lovers romance wasn’t as well written as I had been anticipating, the side characters and action were more than enough to make up for it. For my Four Star review, click here.

Continuing on with my indie book goal this year, Beneath Cruel Fathoms is an up-coming fantasy read featuring merfolk, dark magic and ancient powers that was provided to me as an eARC from the author. Not only is the cover adorable but it features MERFOLK. Who could resist that??

After reading Wylde Fire ARC by Sarah Robinson a few months ago, I was excited to be asked to join the blog tour for Misadventures in the Cage. Early reviews for this book seem promising and I’m always a sucker for a sports romance.

WWW Wednesday – It’s Christmas Time!!

Despite the festive holiday, I’ve decided to not actually read a Christmas romance on Christmas day. Rather, I’m going to read some in January as a farewell to my favourite day of the year. It could also be said that since everyone else seems to be in the festive mood lately, the Christmas romances I’ve been eager to read will only be available in January. The bikkies are tough as Nen says! Oh well, who doesn’t love a little festive January cheer??

Currently, I’m reading my second Elin Hilderbrand novel, The Summer of ’69. This book was very hyped and caught my attention for it’s premise of unveiled family secrets. Seriously, I could read about this all day and Hilderbrand so expertly brings deep family issues to life in her latest book.

I’m so glad that I decided to give summer themed novels a read during my festive season. Here’s to hoping the trend continues in the New Year!

I’ve been a fan of Helena Hunting for the past year or so and I adore the way she can make a seemingly cheesy story line so fun to read. I’ve been looking forward to reading Meet Cute ever since I read the sweet as pie premise. Who can resist the ultimate meet cute??

I’m currently reading Mixed Doubles by Jill Mansell as an ARC from Netgalley. The book had a slow start but the story taking hold is really beginning to grab my attention. Fingers crossed it continues like this. I’m looking forward to being able to write a positive review on it!

I’ve recently finished How to Walk Away by Katherine Center and was completely blown away by not only the heart-wrenchingly emotional story she created but the fact that I was able to add another auto-buy author to my list. It seems like this year has had so many new additions to this list and I’m so thankful to the book blogging community for helping me to find some of them. I don’t imagine I’d ever have considered trying her books without a few positive reviews to encourage me!

My love of Liane Moriarty is not something that will end soon and as such my plan to get through all of her back reads is going well! Nine Perfect Strangers is the next on my list to try. Along with this, I’m keen to try a book by Elin Hilderbrand. I’ve read so many positive reviews on her writing and am keen to give Winter in Paradise a try!

After a disastrous week of reading that included not only a DNF for a book I had been highly anticipating but also a full blown reading slump I’ve decided to change things up and avoid fantasy for the near future.

I’ve recently started a re-read of Truly, Madly, Guilty by one of my all-time favourite authors: Liane Moriarty. The book has been a breath of fresh air from the fantasy phase I was just on and in light of that I decided to start an upcoming ARC called Love Lettering. It’s romance, which is usually my favourite genre. The combo of light and fluffy and mystery have been exactly what I needed to cure my reading slump.

Nen is currently on a fantasy kick still and enjoying the latest ARC from Eoin Colfer: High Fire. Grumpy dragons, humid swamps and an entrepreneurial teen feature in this adult fantasy novel. What’s not to like about that?

Last week’s reading included a DNF for We Set the Dark on Fire as well as a low rating for Everything My Mother Taught Me by the acclaimed Alice Hoffman. It was a very slow and unsatisfying week of reading but oh, well. Onwards and upwards!

Reading Next

After my absolute delight in reading Things You Save in a Fire I’ve been highly anticipating reading Katherine Center’s previous novel How to Walk Away. Hopefully all goes well! I’ve also used the same method (choosing an author I enjoy reading) in With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo (see my review of The Poet X here). When in a reading slump I revert back to re-reads, romance and established authors that I love. Does anyone else do this?

I’ve been wanting to read these two books for a while now! Not only are the covers so pretty and colourful but the books have quietly received so many glowing reviews.

All the Bad Apples is captivating so far and I can’t seem to put it down. We Set the Dark on Fire had a very interesting start but has seemed to plateau a bit in pace. I’m hoping it will pick up more toward the end!

Overall, this was a decent week of reading. I enjoyed One of Us is Lying however it did not seem to hold up to the hype others had placed on it. My review goes in to more depth about the reasons that it fell flat for me.

A Thousand Perfect Notes was a dark, gritty YA that was short, simple and by no means sweet. I still don’t know exactly how I feel about this book yet. It was equally heart-wrenching, emotional and overly simple with a lack of exploration in some areas where it felt desperately needed. The review will be up later today.

Reading Next

Next up this week will be a combo of YA fantasy (my love, my life) with Ghosts of the Shadow Market and Legend. I love Clare’s characters and have been wanting to give this one a try for a few months. Legend made my TBR list from Emer’s ( A Little Haze Book Blog) obsession and recommendation of it.

I’m also taking a small break from the usual with a mystery/crime novel The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith. I was recommended this book by a friend and hope that it meets expectations. I’m always a bit wary when reading outside of my usual genres.

The time has finally come to finish off the Territorial Mates series I’ve been reading since earlier in the year. I received an ARC copy of the first book on a whim and was completely blown away by how deceptively good this series is. Seriously, if you’re in the mood for a slow-burn reverse harem story, this is the series for you!

High Fire is my first journey in to Eoin Colfer’s world of writing and at 20% through, I’ve just started to get the hang of his writing style. It took me a little while to get in to the story but since then it’s really picked up in pace and intrigue. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the story entails!

So this was a mixed bag of recent reads. My Best Friend’s Royal Wedding was an enjoyable read with a setting that captured my attention and made me wistfully want to re-watch all of the Princess Diaries movies again. There were a few issues I had with the character development though, that I’ll discuss in an upcoming review.

Things You Save in a Fire is arguably one of the absolute best books I have read this year. I flew through this book in one sitting and I still can’t stop thinking about it. For anyone who was on the fence about this, all I have to say to you is: READ IT.

Although I have what feels like a million ARCs to read, I’ve been anticipating reading these two books for a while now. A Thousand Perfect Notes has a special place on my TBR list as C.G Drews is a fellow blogger and it’s always so encouraging to see others succeed in their chosen career. One of Us is Lying comes highly recommended (it seems like everyone has read this book) and I’m keen to see where the murder mystery leads!

Oh my word, I think this is the first time in a very, very long time (with the exception of last week haha) that I’m actually reading a book on its own. These past two week have been crazy busy with uni assessments and time has not been on my side. Next week will more than likely be more of the same but at least I have a pretty decent book to keep me sane! I signed up for My Best Friend’s Royal Wedding on Netgalley as the premise sounded so romantic and adorable! I love a royal romance trope in books and so far this one is giving out all the feel-good vibes I’m after!

This past week has been a star-studded cast of really great books! Commute was heart-wrenchingly authentic and sadly so relatable. I think this is a book that will be underrated due to the deeper issues discussed but is honestly so worth the read!

On a lighter note, Timothy Mean and the Time Machine was a wholesome book packed full of adventure, fun and great historical marvels that would be fit for a Pixar film, or the perfect bedtime story. The rhyme and whimsy took me away to faraway lands while the stunning graphics completely caught my eye!

Aren’t the bold colours on this cover just TO DIE FOR? They’re absolutely gorgeous and caught my eye. I’m such a sucker for a beautiful cover *sigh* especially when they have intriguing titles too. I remember being asked this question once and having absolutely no idea what I would grab in a last minute dash. The premise of this book sounds so interesting. I recently read a similar book called Consumed by J.R Ward that took my breath away. Here’s hoping this one will too!

Jen – I’m currently reading two ARCs, Undertones and Followers. Despite their bright and colourful covers, these books have some darker themes that match my current reading mood. They’re gritty, decently paced and interesting!

Nen – The Grisha Trilogy is what I’m currently reading. I mainly picked up the first book in prep for watching the show (Ben Barnes!) but I’m enjoying the story so far. The Darkling is an interesting character that has me eager to see where the story leads, and I absolutely love Bardugo’s world!

Recently Finished

Jen – I’ve had a slow week so my reading has gone up to about a book a day. The stand-outs for this week were I Wish You All the Best and Good Luck Girls with five stars and four stars, respectively. They were completely different books but their characters really caught me in the FEELS. The Upside of Falling Down was a fun, mysterious romance that had the amnesia trope (one I’m always a fan of) plus some super-sweet moments at the end. Girls of Paper and Fire was an interesting read with fantastic world-building. The low points of my week were The Winner’s Curse and We Met in Dec. The first was problematic and a bit offending for me to read while with the latter I just didn’t connect well with the characters. Reviews on those I haven’t published yet will be up soon (I’ve been lazy this week haha)!

Nen – I’ve just got back from holiday so I haven’t read anything recently. I’m keen to get back in to it though!

Reading Next

Jen – The next books on my list are Bury the Lede, a graphic novel ARC I’m really excited about (see why here) and two other novels that caught my eye during my recent library haul. Renegades seems like the perfect fantasy to round out my week and We Are Not Okay is toted as being an exploration of bullying’s affects on youth and is a story I’m keen to try!

Nen – I’m on a Leigh Bardugo kick right now, so King of Scars definitely caught my eye at the library during our latest trip! Now, I’ll be honest, when I saw the pretty sword on the cover I knew I had to snatch up There Will Come a Darkness too. The blurb had me hooked and I can’t wait to read something new. But in the mean time, the mythology nerd in me is losing her mind. I’ve had Circe sitting on my shelf for a while now and I’ll finally be able to give it a go!

I’ve been looking forward to The Good Luck Girls for a while now! I received an ARC for this book and I’ve only seen positive reviews on it so far, which is encouraging! I generally prefer to stay away from reviews until I’ve read the book but I couldn’t help myself in this case. Joanna Nicole over at The Geekish Brunette wrote a lovely review for it and I’m keen to find out my own opinions on the story’s romantic and supernatural elements!

I’m currently half way through The Winner’s Curse and I can say with assurance that it’s not a smooth ride. While the writing, pacing and world-building are all pretty good so far the main character Kestrel gets on my nerves SO BAD. Hopefully she has some character growth before the book’s ending. I read a fantastic review of Girls of Paper and Fire by Brittany over at The Book Guru and immediately added it to my TBR! It’s next up on my reading schedule.

Recently Finished

This was a pretty great week of reading for me! The lowest review was three and a half stars with The Earl’s Christmas Pearl, which was an adorably festive early Christmas read. These Rebel Waves peaked my rating experience this week with a solid 5-Stars. I cannot wait to read These Divided Shores!

I’ve just finished doing a Buddy Read with the lovely Ngoc over at Nish & Ngoc’s Book Nook so a discussion review of These Broken Stars will be up sometime this week (probably tomorrow if I’m not feeling too lazy haha).

Reading Next

Next up on my ARC list is We Met in December. I was initially attracted to this book by the cute graphic cover and premise that promises a cute, wintery romance. I’ve read some quite mixed reviews on it though (I knowww… I have a weakness when it comes to reading them. Especially considering my dislike of spoilers!).

I Wish You All the Best has been on my radar for a while now and I’m so excited to give it a try! With my fantasy and historical romance phase lately I’ve missed some good ol’ teenage angst, sexual exploration and general goodness. These books usually leave me feeling happy so I can’t wait!
