Top Ten Tuesday: Book Club Essentials

Hello Lovelies,

It’s Tuesday! Time for one of our favourite memes of the week. Top Ten Tuesday was created by the lovely Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s topic is: Things I’d Have at my Bookish Party. We decided to forgo ‘party’ for ‘small club’ (we’re introverted that way…) and list the essential items we have at our monthly book club meetings.

Number One

THE BOOKS. What’s a book club without the real reason we’re all there? Our book club subscribes to a local library that provides sets of physical books to use so we’re lucky that no one is left floundering each month to try and get their hands on the novel. This month’s book is: Where the Crawdads Sing. Here’s hoping it lives up to the hype!

Number Two

Teas. We’re a bit nutty about tea at our book club and we’re lucky that the book club host is a tea-fanatic. There’s always an endless list of delightful teas to choose from! My favourite is Gorgeous Geisha by T2 Tea (green tea with strawberry).

Number Three

Comfy couches. There’s nothing better than sitting back, relaxing and having a good ol’ book argument. Well, not argument but discussion. We mostly agree at book club but there have been a few notable exceptions that keep things interesting! Namely, the quality of A Dog’s Purpose. It was one book that was (almost) unanimously DNFd and disliked.

Number Four

George the Cat. He’s a regular fixture at the meetings and Tequila Mockingbird Book Club (that’s us) wouldn’t be the same without its (semi-) famous honorary member! He’s a glorious feline specimen that loves demanding attention and cuddles. How could we ever say no to that???

Number Five

Snacks! We’re all foodie people in the club (the ‘cool kids’ stick together) and book club wouldn’t be the same without something to nibble on while chatting. Our common faves include Tim Tams (an Aussie staple), Berries, Crackers and Cheese. We have all the essentials covered!

And that’s it! We’re a pretty average group with a pretty above-average love for books and all things bookish. What do you have at your book club meetings??

  1. Love this!!! I want to find a real life book club so badly – all of this just reminds me of how cool it would be to meet bookish people in person, talking books for hours. πŸ˜€

      1. No, but I want to find a real life book club – just the idea of meeting over food or drinks and chat books sounds SO GOOD πŸ˜€

  2. I have heard so much about Tim Tams. Adam Hills talks about them A LOT when he’s on telly over here, he said the closest comparison are uk penguin bars but that even then Tim Tams are a whole lot more special. So now I just need to go to Australia so I can taste them πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Also I am so jealous that you have an actual real life, meet up in the flesh book club. I dream of that. Sounds like the most perfect way to spend an evening πŸ˜Šβ€οΈπŸ’™πŸ’š

    1. They’re a treasured icon over here. I think there are more flavours than any other biscuit in our aisles? We take them seriously, haha. My fav were the limited edition red velvet ones that came out a while back. They were not good for my hips πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ If you ever want, I’m happy to send some to you. I know there’s the whole ‘keep online, online’ thing but you’re welcome to the offer if you’re comfortable with that. It was actually blogging that resulted in the real life book club. I got to know some other Perth bloggers, Nish and Ngoc’s Book Nook, and we met up in person (I know, STRANGER DANGER) but they’re the best! We do a monthly club with a few other friends πŸ™‚

  3. The Council of the Ninja Magic Conjuring Cats formally request an invite to this soiree to meet and negotiate proper support in the bookish community with Sir George.

Of course I would come…. but I am told it would be in servitude of them…

    1. Your comment has officially just made my day Susan πŸ˜€ πŸ˜‚ Sir George would be honoured to host The Council of the Ninja Magic Conjouring Cats at the meeting next month. You’re welcome too. The more the merrier (to better serve them)!

      1. Ha! I will keep that between us as I aim to amuse, as always. If I can amuse one person a day than I’ve done my job in the world. The CNMCC take their position very seriously and would not take our jovial nature unbecoming. I will relay Sir George’s acceptance of their offer with the due diligence and respect with which is expected.

  4. Great list!!! Our book club has most of the things on your list, the books, teas and biscuits. I absolutely love Tim Tams. When my cousin’s visit from Australia they always bring me a supply. 😍😍😍 the last time I visited them I brought so many that I was actually asked at security what was in my carry on bag, when it went into the xray machine πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

    1. HAHA that’s the spirit Mani! Who need just one packet of Tim Tams? They’re pretty legendary over here so I’m glad you enjoy them! What’s your fav flavour?

      1. Now if we got them here in the UK I wouldn’t have to stock up πŸ˜‚ my favourite are the red velvet, coffee and the mint onesπŸ˜‹

  5. Aw, it’s why I started blogging too! I didn’t have the book club back then. You’re definitely welcome to join us. We’re an in-person book club in Perth, Western Australia but we’re open to having members join in through Zoom. Otherwise, I was thinking of starting a purely online Zoom-run book club. There’s something special about chatting in person about books πŸ™‚ (also, if you weren’t entirely serious about joining that’s fine too! I wasn’t too sure, haha).
