Top Ten Tuesday – *Summer* inspired books on my TBR

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and The Bookish in 2010 and was moved to Artsy Reader Girl in 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week a new topic is chosen, this week’s is: Winter TBR.

As it’s currently summer in the wonderful land of Down Under, I’ve decided to amend the topic. As I’m in a summery mood most of my books are romance but there are a few mysteries/ soft thrillers thrown in there too!

Here they are:

Meet Cute by Helena Hunting and Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren are both romances that have been on my TBR for a long while now. Not only are their covers cheerfully bright and appealing to look at, the authors are go-to romance writers for when I’m in a HEA mood.

One of my upcoming ARC reads for the summer is Jill Mansell’s Mixed Doubles book that’s published on 7 Jan, 2020 (although there seems to be a copy released in 1998, so I’m not entirely sure if it’s just a republication of the same novel or a spin off?). Along with this, I have Elin Hilderbrand’s novels Winter in Paradise and Summer of ’69 currently gracing my book shelves. I cannot wait to give them a try! I’ve read so many positive reviews on her writing. Also, how divine are her covers? They practically beg you to think about summer!

Along with my absolute ADORATION for all things Liane Moriarty, I have recently been recommended The Last Mrs Parrish and The Mother in Law as similar mystery/thriller -type books. Their covers alone seem ridiculously similar and I’m eager to give the poolside mysteries a go!

Lastly, I’m keen to get stuck in to some slower-paced romance and character-driven stories. My love for all things Katherine Center has been blossoming lately. I’ve made it my 2020 goal to devour all of her back reads. Along with this, The Girl He Used To Know by Tracey Garvis Graves was also recommended to me due to my fascination with Katherine Center’s writing.

    1. Thanks Yolanda 🙂 I hope you and your family are feeling better! Hawaii is one of my bucket list travel destinations ❤ I suppose it might be different living there all the time but all-year-round summer?? That's the dream! Also, I could blab on about how much I love Moriarty's writing for DAYS. I hope you can get around to giving one of her books a try sometime 🙂

    1. I’m really excited to give it a go 😀 I’ve heard that the book isn’t too scary (one feature of thrillers and mysteries that generally makes me apprehensive to read more of them) so I’m eager to give it a try!

    1. I had a bit of fun choosing ones with summer vibes on the cover 😀 I have a few that weren’t so summery on the cover but they’re just currently sitting on my shelf. I’m still hoping to get around to reading them as well and posting some reviews. I’m really looking forward to reading The Mother in Law, I’ve read some positive reviews on it and am trying my hand at mysteries/thrillers that aren’t too scary haha 😛

  1. Great summer TBR list, Jen! I loooved Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating 😍Hazel is such a wonderful character and I need someone with her level of bubbly in my life! There are quite a few on here that I also wanna read but don’t think I’ll get into them this year 🙈 Happy reading!

    1. I’m really excited to give it a try. I had a sneak peak at the first page in consideration for first lines Friday this week and already enjoyed reading about her personality. Hazel seems so easily relatable (from the first page anyway 😛 ).

  2. Aw I’m so jealous it’s summer where you are. School is canceled for my daughter and I had to scrape ice off every surface of my car this morning. 🙄

I need to check out Liane Moriarty! Nine Perfect Strangers sounds awesome. I’ve also heard good things about The Last Mrs. Parrish.
