Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and The Bookish in 2010 and was moved to Artsy Reader Girl in 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week a new topic is chosen, this weekβs is: Book Titles with Numbers in them.
This week had a challenging topic. I had so many books with numbers in their titles that I wanted to read but I decided to try and choose books that use numbers from one to ten to make it a bit more of a challenge. It ended up taking me AGES to find books that I GENUINELY want to read. It was fun though!
Here they are:
ONE // TWO // THREE

Ready Player One – I’ve only seen the movie for this but I LOVED it. The characters were relatable, funny and had such an endearing array of cute quirks. I’m really hoping the book lives up to all that the movie was (yes… that’s a sentence I honestly never thought I’d say). The story follows Wade Watts on his adventurous journey to win the ultimate prize from pop-culture-filled video game Oasis, the only form of fun in the future’s grim reality.
Two Can Keep a Secret – I’ve just recently purchased ‘One of us is lying’ so the second novel by McManus is also on my TBR Radar (those are the books that haven’t quite made it on to my official TBR yet). I’m hoping to slowly get in to crime/thriller novels (I’m an utter wimp when it comes to them) and this one doesn’t look too daunting as it’s also a YA. Fingers crossed!
Tell Me Three Things – A secret identity in a book is like hauling out rainbow and asking me not to search for the pot of gold on the horizon. I know it’s never there but I always, always have a look anyway haha! When Jessie starts a new, intimidating prep school she suddenly starts receiving messages from somebody/nobody (SN) about tips and advice to make it through the school year. I love books set in schools so this one’s definitely on my TBR!
FOUR // FIVE // SIX

Four: A Divergent Collection – Admitting to having fallen head-over-heels for the Divergent Saga is the equivalent to admitting to being Team Edward… you’ll either make life-long friends or distant enemies instantly (a slight exaggeration but you get what I mean!). I loved Four in these books and devoured them over a weekend purely to read his character. The rest were… meh…but Tobias stole my heart. I still can’t believe I haven’t gotten around to reading this one yet!
Five Feet Apart – I’ll be honest… it’s the gorgeous cover that makes me want to read this! I’m an emotional sap to the core and stories with so many FEELS in the premise have the potential to destroy me. Like The Fault in Our Stars. I cried for DAYS. The medical aspect of this story has me interested in reading it though. I’m always keen to see how accurate and authentic the writing is in concern to patient care and experience. I’m keen to give this a try!
Daisy Jones and the Six – I’ve heard so much about this book. From its unconventional writing style to the fact that Reese Witherspoon loves it. It’s been on my TBR for a long while and yet I just haven’t felt like I was in the right mood to read it. Here’s hoping I’ll get to it before the end of the year!
SEVEN // EIGHT // NINE

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – Glamour, scandal, life, forbidden love, ruthless ambition and unexpected friendships all set out in an interview-type setting? I’m sold. I honestly don’t have to explain more than that haha.
Eighth Grade Bites – The Chronicles of Nick were so much fun to read and I’ve heard that The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod are similarly good. The covers are eye-catching and the promise of teenage angst, fantastical drama and action has me practically levitating to get my hands on it!
November 9 – Colleen Hoover is one of those romance writers that people always recommend to me and yet I STILL never read her books. It’s probably time to change that. All of the positive reviews can’t have been made up! I chose November 9 as it follows Fallon and Ben, a novelist, as they meet on the same day every year. Here’s hoping this one meets expectations!
// TEN //

Ten Thousand Doors of January – So this one works for the topic… provided we ignore the word ‘thousand’ haha. I genuinely couldn’t find any other books with ‘ten’ in the title I want to read and I’ve been anticipating this book for such a long time. The cover, the magical premise and promise of rich descriptions made this a shoe-in for the number ten spot!

// have you read any of the books on my TTT this week? what were your thoughts on them? //
I Lol’ed on the Ten Thousand. π π I haven’t posted mine but I already made the draft and just like you, I also challenged myself to find book titles from 1-10 in my TBR and we have similar books in 1, 2 and 6. π π

Ooh Iβm glad you challenged yourself too and that we had some in common π Iβm really looking forward to Daisy Jones and the Six! Which of those three are you most looking forward to? π Jen

Daisy Jones as well and Two can keep a Secret. π π But I’m kind of scared to read them. I really love Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo that i’m afraid I end up comparing Daisy Jones with it. π

Great selection, Jen!β€ I was in two minds whether to see Ready Player One, worried the film isn’t going to be as good as the book. Now I feel reassured ππ€

Great list! I’m glad to hear that Ready Player One’s film version is appealing, I definitely want to read the book + watch it. It’s nice to see books get high budget adaptations, even just for the eye candy. OMG November 9! I had completely forgotten to mention that one in my own list. I’ve read it, liked it. Definitely be careful not to look up anything about the book before reading because there is a major spoiler that hopefully you wont’ encounter before reading. π

Yes to the eye candy! π I agree with you though! Iβll check out your post! Ooh thanks for the heads up. I HATE spoilers. The premise sounds so interesting though. I like the idea of a story paced out over a long period of time π

Ah five feet apart… I too was taken in by the cover and the fact that it had input from people in the CF community but honestly the rep is dodgy at best. Like it’s okay for a cute read but so many unrealistic things happen in the hospital environment that I wanted to slap someone… Repeatedly…. And there’s also one of those really problematic tropes I don’t like but can’t say because it’s a spoiler… I rated it one star… I know. I’m a terrible person. Always have to have a rant don’t I. Because it’s not the worst book ever but me and illness rep… I just have too many opinions πππ
I did a TTT with numbers 1 to 10 too btw. I think it made it easier πππ lol I’m always so lazy

Youβre definitely not terrible! Rant away! Thatβs what I always say to Nen π we love to break books apart. I like that youβre so open and honest about your view points on books with illness rep and in my opinion, your word means more than just an average reader who canβt always relate. Itβs something personal to you and if authors are going to write illness rep they should do it in an authentic way thatβs meaningful, unpatronising and accurate. Your take on Everything, Everything seriously made me reevaluate my opinions on the book. I struggle with OCD anxiety, have done for years and years, and I honestly avoid books with characters suffering from it because almost always itβs written in a way that annoys me and isnβt a clear representation of what is actually like to live with the illness. Sorry… that was a rant of my own π anyway! I enjoyed your TTT! π

I feel you!!! It’s just authors need to put in a whole lot more research and if they want to write a cute story with a character with any type of illness/disability/mental health rep that’s okay. But there are ways and means of writing realistically while also giving us those almost fantastical happy endings.

Ah, love that you also did the numbers 1-10! It’s only made me realize just how many books with numbers in the title that I actually want to read and still haven’t got around to πFab list, Jen! Also, TJR is so queenπ

Five Feet Apart ruined me on so many levels. I heard about it after a favourite YouTuber of mine passed away from CF. It’s such a beautiful story but it was a REALLY emotional read.
